History at Debate

We are addresing you ourselves to you once again because of the Virtual Conference that will take place parallel to the International Conference II "History at Debate" during the 14th through the 18th of July. The instructions for participing in the Virtual Conference by means of Chat follow below. A page existis where the program and the communication abtsracts of the conference are displayed.

A program called mirc32.exe. is needed. Basically, it is an application for IRC (Internet Relay Chat), that will allow for the connection to be made to the conference. Many people are already familiar with the applicaton, with is widely spread throghout the web. At any rate, following it is explained how one can obtain such a program, and in every situation, information will be provided for the connection.

1.- How to download the program mirc32.

The program occupies approximately 1 Mb It can be done by visiting www.mirc.com If you are familiar with downloading files and navigating the web, select the version most suitable to your operative system; the program can also be downloaded clicking on the direct access sites which are displayed below; click on the link that is most suitable to by case:

If your operative system is Windows 95, 98, or NT, click on:

In any of the previous cases, you will be able to see in a window that asks you where you wish to save the file. Either choose a location and remember it; later we will refer to it.

After a period of time(dependinh on the speed of the line that is used) the file will be downloaded.

 

2.- Installation of the downloaded file.

Once the downloaded process ends, we will have in the locaton that we have chosen, a file title: "mirc56t.exe".

  1. Locate the file on your hard drive and execute it. (double click on it)
  2. Next you will be able to see a window indicating that mirc32 will be installed into your system.
  3. Click on the button "Install".
  4. Now you will see a progress bar that shows the installation process.
  5. When it ends, press "Accept"; the program is installed in the directory c:\mirc

 

 

4- Formation of the connection to the connection to the irc server: irc.cesga.es

  1. Click on the photograph of the author of the program
  2. Next, fill in the fields that apperar:
  3. Full name

    E-mail address

    Nick: a name or alias with a maximum of 9 letters. Try to make it representative of your real name so that the rest of us can identify you

  4. Click on "OK"
  5. Key in textually the following in the window "status":

/server irc.cesga.es.

This way you will connect with our chat server. Click on OK in the following window

In order to enter the conference chat room, type the following:
