What proposes HuD? The Manifesto |
Dear friends of HaD This small note is simply for endorsing the text of Lariza Bermúdez of days ago, that complained the mention to Ranke in the Manifesto, as "a objetivista" historian whose work would be something as well as an example of the historian would not have to do. Estimados amigos de HaD Esta pequeña nota es simplemente para respaldar el texto de Lariza Bermúdez de hace unos días, quien se quejaba de la mención a Ranke en el Manifiesto, como un historiador "objetivista" cuyo trabajo sería algo así como un ejemplo de lo el historiador no debería hacer. Igual que ella, pienso que a Ranke injustamente se le ha colgado la etiqueta esa de "contar las cosas tal y como realmente sucedieron", que si bien es una frase que escribió en una de sus primeras obras, no hay que tomarla como un lema que haya presidido y efectivamente aplicado en toda su vasta producción. Si uno lo lee, comprobará que sus trabajos poco tienen que ver con esa pretendida objetividad; están llenos en cambio de alusiones a la "unidad nacional", el "destino de una civilización", que más bien lo emparentan con la historiografía nacionalista romántica a la que paradójicamente quiso combatir o superar. También es frecuente ubicar a Ranke como un prototipo de la historiografía "positivista", cuyo propósito habría sido sólo referir los hechos sin nunguna intención explicativa, con lo que no sólo se desfigura a Ranke sino también al positivismo del siglo XIX, puesto que la pretensión de esta corriente era hacer de la historia una ciencia en todo el sentido de la palabra, con sus conceptos, leyes y teoría. Ya que hoy en día también puede hablarse de corrientes historiográficas neopositivistas (a lo Douglass North, por ejemplo) es bueno separar el trigo de la cebada, y a Ranke del positivismo.
