Seminar "History under Debate"

Presentation

The Permanent Seminar History under Debate- made up of young Gallician researchers- has been convening regularly once or twice a month during the academic year since 1994 to discuss methodology, historiography and the theory of history. Likewise, it has provided an opportunity for both its members and visiting historians from the rest of Spain and abroad (especially Latin America) to share their research and organisational experiences both at a personal and collective level .

The Seminar came about as an initiative of Carlos Barros on the wake of the First International Conference History under Debate, which took place in 1993, with the objective of maintaining the style of discussion, interchange and reflection that characterised HuD as well as that of contributing to the development of its members, most of them being young ph.D. researchers working on historiography and theory of History, Medieval and Modern History in accordance with the requirements of the Universidad de Santiago.

This seminar is , furthermore, part of the research project known as ‘ The State of History', at the head of which is again Carlos Barros, and which funds the seminar along with the Instituto de de Estudios Gallego ‘Padre Sarmiento' ( CSIC).

The contacts made on the course of the meetings of the HuD Seminar - both in the case of permanent members and visiting historians- have contributed to the organisation of the Second International Conference ‘History under Debate' which will take part in July 1999 and whose technical secretaryship is made up of its members.
