How to present the Spanish medieval literature" (is the
course called this way in the catalog of studies) to North
American students that are not able to locate well neither Spain
neither the Half Age? How to present the texts of the peninsular
half age without falling in anachronic nation ideas and goods of
texts? Undoubtedly there was not "Spanish medieval
literature, but to enter in the problems that arise soon after
this fact, to discuss the same title of the course, it is already
a lot for students of third year of study of the language
national modern. They don't want complications.
The on the way to Santiago offers a very useful solution to these
problems. For a decade I present the Spanish medieval literature,
I don't eat a series of texts organized chronological or
generically but like a series of encounters along the French road
in the year 1300. This way, in Roncesvalles we read Singing of
Roncesvalles, in San Millán, the Miracles of Berco, in Burgos
(and Carrión), the Poem of my Cid, in Vigo (if we arrive so far)
to Martim Codax, finding the medieval texts as they would have
found them the pilgrims of the year 1300: linked to a specific
place (and small) and not to abstractions like literature,"
language," " nation ". The technology of the WWW
facilitates a lot of east purpose and my report will present the
elements of the course that I have mounted in the Web, including
pages made by the same students as part of its work in the
course.
I will also present a new project to enlarge the virtual elements
of the course, contruyendo a digital model of the Cathedral of
Santiago of Compostela that will serve like the pilgrims' that
travel for the paths of the Internet virtual goal.
