For those of us who attempt to do reaearch far away from any major libraries, and certainly from any archival sources in medieval or renaissance documents, the necessity of access through some digital network is absolutely paramount. We also need a way to consult with and respond to colleagues working in the same or related fields, especially when there are no such persons anywhere within normal communications distance.
