Third Conference History under Debate Santiago de Compostela. July 14-18 2004

 

CONVOCATION

 

We invite, for the third time - the first this new century- historians from around the world to make their pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela to reflect and debate together on the state of the discipline of history and its relationship with immediate history.

The history being researched, taught and disseminated cannot - and must not - turn its back on the historical, and hence historiagraphic, acceleration we are witnessing.

We are interested in the innovations on method and theory of history, historiography and the history/society relationship that have arisen since our Second Conference in 1999.

We seek now to further elaborate a historiographic and global alternative for the 21st century that guarantees a new surge for the historical profession and the writing of history and which contributes to the historical end of a better future for the whole of humanity.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE

Participation in the Third Conference History under Debate by submitting texts and messages that are related to any of the thematic sections or round tables can be done in two ways.

1) By participating via short messages in the  Digital Conference Debates , where summaries of papers and the remaining brief texts are submitted by attendants to the Conference. Debates shall be ruled by the freedom of speech, mutual respect and sufficient identification which are habitual in HuD. Debates in the Parallel Conference can be followed by regularly visiting this website; by subscribing to the HuD mail list (please send a message saying "suscribe" to h-debate@cesga.es) or by registering in the Santiago de Compostela Conference.

2) By taking part personally in the conference that will be held in July 14-18 2004 in Santiago de Compostela (Galicia, Spain). There are three compatible options for your participation to personally attend and take the floor during the debates; to submit short texts for round tables any time from now; to submit papers for the thematic sections so that, once confirmed, they are presented at the conference. For any of these options you must fill in the following  Registration Bulletin and Accommodation Bulletin.
