History under Debate 4th Conference: Extended deadline for submission of papers

Dear friends of History under Debate,

The summer holidays, the high demand and the need to reformulate some of the proposals so as to adapt them to such an “unconventional” agenda has led us to extend until 1 October 2010 the deadline for submission of papers for the 4th International Conference History under Debate (15-19 December 2010).

Having reached a halfway point in the preparation of our conference, we would like to thank the numberless colleagues and institutions that from all five continents, within and without the Internet, for their active contribution to disseminating this great historiographic event taking place in December.

We are particularly satisfied with the average level of quality, originality and innovation of the 80   papers that have been accepted  so far, which will make it possible to surpass the results of the 3rd Conference (2004) as regards the generation of new historiographic knowledge, thus moving forwards into the definition of the historical profession in the 21st century, our prime objective as an international network of historians.

We therefore invite you to submit during this month of September the title and an abstract for the latest papers in all 11 sections, for which purpose you should first consult the extended summary, as well as to submit  papers and brief presentations for all 13 round tables ranging from  A (The century of Obama) up to LL (Bologna and the teaching of history), which so far have not received as much attention as required on the part of potential conference participants but which are of paramount importance for History under Debate.

We are furthermore very pleased with the response of Spanish and European historiography to our call, but we would like to see greater participation from North American and most particularly, from Latin America, with the remarkable exception of Brazil and Mexico.

Those not submitting a paper will be equally entitled to participate in our conference debates, which as usual, will be recorded and published in the Conference Proceedings.

We would like you to remind you that you should fill in the inscription bulletin for the 4th Conference and make the accommodation reservation in Santiago de Compostela as soon as possible as the city is seeing a spectacular increase in the number of pilgrims on the occasion of this Xacobeo 10.

We count on you for the final push towards this second conference in the 21st century.
