Vale

Solidarity with Ecuador:
The events in Ecuador do not surprise absolutely. For years, the economic crisis and the corrupt governments have placed to the Ecuadorians in a intolerable situation. Visit Quito in 1998 and 1999. I have friends and friends, colleagues or no, who, gradually, have remained without resources to survive they and their families. Until the patrimony they lost by the banking crisis. A great sector of the population, mainly indigena lives in conditions of great misery. All this structural situation, obvious, has caused the outbreak of a national revolution that fights to oligarquia and to the proYankee governments. The economics politics, like always, single cause misery, inequality, extreme poverty and an equitable distribution of the wealth. No longer one says to the opportunities and alternatives of the population, like education, house, health and culture.
The initiated revolution, without a doubt, took to a period of greater instability, by the threats of E.U., that, as our colleague Paz and Mino says well, it tries to surround to the national mobilization in demand of " democracy ", like is possible that it is spoken of this, when the Ecuadorian population, immense mayoria, tries to end the structural crisis caused by oligarquia economic?
Already until the famous Crazy person, Bukaran, threatens returning. It was interviewed yesterday by Mexican means and are impressive his declarations.
I trust in which the Ecuadorian town is strong and resists. The change prevails by the force to demolish the stagnation and the crisis to that great pais like Ecuador.
Solidarity with the Ecuadorian town.
I hope that Juan maintains us to as much of the situation.

Dear colleagues,
since I do not know Spanish and think that C. Barros might not know German I should like to take up your thread in English.
I have started my scientific reception of Wallerstein with an article in JAHRBUECHER FUeR GESCHICHTE OSTEUROPAS 1980, which has been published in English in REVIEW OF THE FERNAND BRAUDEL INSTITUTE 1982. In 1982 also I published DIE EINE WELT; 2nd.ed. 1993, not available at the moment. My main point, in short, is and was, that intellectual, political , social criteria have to be included into the discussion on the World System. Since then I am taking part in the international debate on World-History (transgressing the concept of system) and I am a member of the World-History-Association.
Further a group of friends and I have founded a VEREIN FUeR GESCHICHTE DES WELTSYSTEMS , which is editing a RUNDBRIEF, on its way to a Journal just now.
If you are interested, please send your adresses to me. In case you would do that immediately, I would send to you Satzung etc. in return. A homepage is in the making, but not yet finished - sorry, I am only learning in that field.
My position: I am Professor for History of Eastern Europe in Hannover (HISTORISCHES SEMINAR der UNIVERSITAeT HANNOVER, Im Moore 21, 3o167 Hannover). My last book: Kleine Geschichte Russlands, with Reclams Universalbibliothek Nr. 9696.
The adress of our Verein also is my private adress:
Bullerbachstr. 12
D-30890 Barsinghausen
Germany
I have been elected fellow of the Nobel-Institut, therefore you might ,
following February 1st, turn to:
c.o. Det Norske Nobel Institut
Drammensveien 19
N 0255 Oslo
Norway
Email: <gf2@nobel.no>
hoping to hear from you, and glad that this debate - which in the US already
has led to new history-textbooks - is reaching good old Europe -
sincerely
Hans-Heinrich Nolte
