| One feels like difficult to find
reasons to animate to the chavales more that finish
Baccalaureate to study History, and when the Faculties are true
breeding grounds of unemployed. I suppose that watching towards
one same one and remembering porqué to embark to us in this way
of History would be some convincing reasons. I had professors of
History who animated to me not to study the history race because
he was not exits... and months later me dí account that was
certain. But also it was certain that my companions of Institute
who did not study either Right, Chemical, Biological, or
Enterprise had exits, and that had not said anybody to it... (the
expectations which one has on many aspects of the life around
years can change).
In my case which took to me to study history and so many years ago (1988-1992) was not the preoccupation to understand everything what happened around to my, and the professional exits did not worry to me as much. Soon with the years everything changes specially in the one of the work, and one sees that it is very difficult to have work related to your profession (I in fact do not have it), but even so I feel that I chose the race prettier than could have chosen. I do not feel in way some deceived because certain expectations have not been fulfilled. In fact I have followed with thesis doctoral, because it pleases me what I do and I have had luck to agree with group of people that supports to me in which I do and values my work. And that to at the moment is enough me. Indeed, I understand that one of the present problems is that aid very little to the students during the race. Many professors go to their air, very comfortable in their platform, without worrying minimum about their students. Considering that to the Faculties of History continues arriving all those students whose note does not give them to study another race, that the quality leaves enough that to wish, and coverall no that there is a real preoccupation by the pupils (in the advice of Department the latest to consider is the interest of the student), the situation is complicated. To animate somebody to study History is to deceive it. It seems that the historians have professionalized themselves, and are those who give class of History in a University or an Institute, but really we would not be able to carry out other many works? At a time at which to work for a ONG is the ideal of many young people new areas of work like the international cooperation, international organisms are opened, etc. In addition in the times in which we lived History has to be understood like a preoccupation by the weak ones, the marginalized ones, the needed ones, the pressed ones, the emigrants. Somebody will have to work with them and for them. Some will think that that is to be too idealistic. But, why it cannot thus be. We cannot oppress to the young people with the money, the exits, the future and the preoccupations. Everything arrives, and of course that the mayores satisfactions in the life does not give the money them. In fín, this is a personal reflection, but I would like that people studied history, although we would have to help more to that does. Some either they are doing it, or managing interchange programs, or starting new initiatives, or simply making an effort in the task of every day. José Serrano

Se antoja difícil encontrar razones para animar a los chavales que acaban Bachillerato a estudiar Historia, y más cuando las Facultades son verdaderos viveros de parados. Supongo que mirando hacia uno mismo y recordando el porqué de embarcarnos en este camino de la Historia se encontrarían algunas razones convincentes. Yo tuve profesores de Historia que me animaron a NO estudiar la carrera de historia porque no tenía salidas... y años más tarde me dí cuenta que era cierto. Pero también era cierto que mis compañeros de Instituto que estudiaron Derecho, Químicas, Biológicas, o Empresariales tampoco tenían salidas, y eso no se lo había dicho nadie... (Las expectativas que uno tiene sobre muchos aspectos de la vida a la vuelta de unos años pueden cambiar). En mi caso lo que me llevó a estudiar historia y no hace tantos años (1988-1992) fue la preocupación por entender todo lo que pasaba a mi alrededor, y no me preocupaban tanto las salidas profesionales. Luego con los años todo cambia especialmente en lo del trabajo, y uno ve que es muy difícil tener trabajo relacionado con tu profesión (yo de hecho no lo tengo), pero aún así siento que elegí la carrera más bonita que podía haber elegido. No me siento en modo alguno engañado porque no se hayan cumplido ciertas expectativas. De hecho he seguido con la tesis doctoral, porque me gusta lo que hago y he tenido la suerte de coincidir con un grupo de personas que me apoyan en lo que hago y valoran mi trabajo. Y eso por el momento me basta. Precisamente, entiendo que uno de los problemas actuales es que se ayuda muy poco a los alumnos durante la carrera. Muchos profesores van a su aire, muy cómodos en su tarima, sin preocuparse lo más mínimo por sus alumnos. Teniendo en cuenta que a las Facultades de Historia siguen llegando todos aquellos alumnos cuya nota no les da para estudiar otra carrera, que la calidad deja bastante que desear, y sobretodo que no hay una preocupación real por el alumnado (en los consejos de Departamento lo último a tener en cuenta es el interés del alumno), la situación es complicada. Animar a alguien a estudiar Historia es engañarlo. Parece que los historiadores se han profesionalizado, y son aquellos que imparten clase de Historia en una Universidad o un Instituto, pero realmente ¿no seríamos capaces de llevar a cabo otros muchos trabajos? En una época en la que trabajar para una ONG es el ideal de muchos jóvenes se abren nuevas áreas de trabajo como la cooperación internacional, organismos internacionales, etc. Además en los tiempos en los que vivimos la Historia ha de ser entendida como una preocupación por los débiles, los marginados, los necesitados, los oprimidos, los emigrantes. Alguien tendrá que trabajar con ellos y para ellos. Algunos pensarán que eso es ser demasiado idealista. Pero, ¿por qué no puede ser así?. No podemos agobiar a los jóvenes con el dinero, las salidas, el futuro y las preocupaciones. Todo llega, y desde luego que las mayores satisfacciones en la vida no las da el dinero. En fín, esta es una reflexión personal, pero me gustaría que la gente estudiase historia, aunque deberíamos ayudar más a quien lo hace. Algunos ya lo están haciendo, ya sea gestionando programas de intercambio, ya sea poniendo en marcha nuevas iniciativas, o simplemente esforzándose en el quehacer de cada día. After the earthquake of the Saturday the 13 of January first news of alarm (referred the historical-cultural patrimony) arrived to us from the Striking Library. And the possibilities of granting a scholarship students offered by Mercedes Samaniego, perfect, the inventory and cataloguing of the bottoms would be taken advantage of for as much policemen as the Striking Library. Queridos amigos de Historia a Debate, en especial a Lila Fiorini, Joselias Sánchez, Mercedes Samaniego y G-Pereira-Menaut Tras el terremoto del sábado 13 de enero las primeras noticias de alarma ( referidas al patrimonio histórico-cultural) nos llegaban de la Biblioteca Gallardo. Sin embargo conforme ha ido pasando el tiempo la lista de archivos y bibliotecas dañados se ha ido ampliando, sobretodo con los de carácter municipal. Por supuesto hay que añadir teatros, las pocas iglesias coloniales en pie como la de Panchimalco y centros históricos como el de Santa Tecla. Pero centrémonos en los archivos y bibliotecas. En este momento el Archivo General de la Nación intenta recopilar datos del estado de los archivos municipales, los más abandonados hasta aquel 13 de enero y ahora muchos de ellos en el suelo. El Archivo va a "negociar" con los alcades de Izalco, Juayúa, Berlín, Comasagua y Santa Tecla para trasladar los fondos a su propio edificio en San Salvador. La lista, al parecer va a ir alargándose. Especial interés cobra el archivo de Sonsonate, con el fondo de colonia más importante del país (¡¡¡60 metros!!!). Al parecer también la Biblioteca Gallardo va a ser trasladada al AGN. Para todo ello se necesitan estanterías y cajas. Y las posibilidades de becar estudiantes ofrecidas por Mercedes Samaniego, ¡perfecto!, serían aprovechadas para el inventario y catalogación de los fondos tanto municipales como de la Biblioteca Gallardo. En estos momentos lo importante es el traslado de los documentos antes de la época de lluvias o de que las alcaldías los tiren o quemen por necesidades de espacio. En cuanto a tu propuesta de donación de libros, G. Pereira-Menaut, genial, sería una óptima forma de abrir las ventanas y que entrara aire fresco a este paisito llamado Pulgarcito, pero por supuesto, cuando se normalicen las cosas. Por otra parte en esta semana hemos conseguido aunar esfuerzos de varias instituciones para hacer un llamamiento conjunto en favor de los fondos históricos salvadoreños. Este pronunciamiento pretende ser una llamada de atención conjunta que nos respalde a la hora de gestionar proyectos de forma concreta. Esta sí es una llamada institucional más que personal. PRONUNCIAMIENTO
Ante la comunidad nacional e internacional, las instituciones abajo suscritas, interesadas en el resguardo de la memoria histórica de El Salvador, MANIFESTAMOS 1.Nuestra solidaridad con las víctimas y damnificados que dejara el terremoto del pasado sábado 13 de enero. 2. La profunda preocupación por la salvaguarda de la historia salvadoreña y sus testimonios documentales, bibliográficos, arquitectónicos, monumentales y artísticos en serio peligro de desapareción debido a las pésimas condiciones de conservación en que se encuentran. 3. Que el terremoto del 13 de enero agudizó tal situación de deterioro de archivos y bibliotecas del país, entre los que se encuentran la Biblioteca Manuel A. Gallardo, la Biblioteca Nacional, el archivo de la Universidad de El Salvador y diversos archivos municipales y parroquiales. Por tanto, SOLICITAMOS 1. A la población y funcionarios que contribuyan en la medida de sus posibilidades al rescate de estos testimonios. 2. La colaboración en los trabajos que realicen Concultura, las municipalidades, las instituciones públicas y privadas para conservar el acervo histórico en todas sus manifestaciones. 3. A las instituciones y comunidad académica internacional, la solidaridad que los ha caracterizado para apoyar las diferentes acciones que nos permitan reconstruir y evitar el aniquilamiento de la identidad histórica salvadoreña.
