| Hello friends historians! I have followed the debates and some there are similarity to me very interesting, although he is not in agreement with some ideas, I create fervent in the words of some wise person, (nonmemory its name) who affirmed "the truth arises from the amiable discord between the ideas that persecute it with honesty" I am Guatemalan and as to you the state worries to me about present History in my country. I am professor of average education and this year I conclude my degree. Right now I undertake an investigation in four of the main Universities to determine the importance that occurs him to the course of History of Guatemala in the formation of the professionals and of examining approaches and methodology. I have observed through the debates, that the little interest by History is a plague that it is invading to us to many, if it is not that to all the Latin American countries. I believe that this is really serious and agree with several of you when you affirm that good part of the responsibility of this situation must such be attributed to historians. Logically there are many other factors that must be taken into account, but wanted to share with you some ideas that concern to us. It is obvious that in underdeveloped countries the access to the education represents a capital problem and that in this scheme arises the priority to study races that alleviate the basic necessities. We cannot blame to people by this. However, educative Institutions like Universities and Centers in all the levels, yes have the responsibility to show the individuals an unobjectionable truth If march in this one direction the man only loses the conscience of the dimensions of its spirit and his capacity of inner development. It is really lost to itself. The effect in the society is translated to the presence of professionals with one narrow vision of the reality, handling the world based on false premises and doing that others pay the consequence of those decisions. History like Sociology and the Philosophy is disciplines that put to the man in contact with their own nature and the reality, show to him what is able to be and to do, compares it, questions it, integrates it. All we know that only in the knowledge we can discern the difference between the good and badly and save to our time as much error committed in the past. What happens in societies in where more and more, this type of person is but little? (autoconsciente and carrying Person To be of superior values) How we can hope to obtain the progress in the backs of men disconnected of these immersed truths and in necessities, sometimes legitimate and sometimes invented, canalized mainly in economic terms? And many intellectuals shut up, and the Universities insist on filling their programs with "profitable" races. Then, my proposal is We raise this train. Let us commercialize History, we leave the aletargante comfort of our studies and launch an attractive and aggressive campaign, for children, young people and adults. Let us make a history dynamic, we show the benefit of its knowledge (mainly to the thousands of illiterate politicians which they circulate around the planet) We visit the radio, the press, so that they are gotten up to the idea to disclose the knowledge and the investigation of History. Let us process videos, we visit companies to sell historical knowledge. Let us get at the interior of our countries to show people the necessity to him to discover its origins. Let us found associations, we drive crazy to the Governments with a request rain, look for international aid to finance investigation projects, foment relations and contacts with professors worldwide. Etc, Etc., Etc. The people, the groups, the nations cannot be appraised to themselves nor to their context if they do not know it. In good part she is in the absence of this knowledge in where the scorn by the own thing is born, the corruption, the feedback of our bad international image, our indifference as opposed to the political conflicts that concern to us, in fín, so many evils! I know that many now they will be thinking, "this one lady wants that we yes become merchants". Then in certain form, is nobody does it by us. The memory of the Latin American countries can become very narrow, because the ones in charge to show the past are being extinguished. If the Universities close the races of History, (as it has happened in Guatemala) that will distribute the few courses that still exist in some years? Perhaps then History, is written by journalists, with the serious consequences that it represents. On the other hand, the same deterioration of the discipline has caused the little intellectual curiosity of many historians, and as some of you you affirmed, a mythical and descriptive history becomes, contributing to that their work is not valued. But the exigency to we ourself, and the commitment that we must assume... is another subject! Hola amigos historiadores! He seguido los debates y algunos me han parecido muy interesantes, aunque no esté de acuerdo con algunas ideas, creo fervientemente en las palabras de algún sabio, (no recuerdo su nombre) que afirmó "La verdad surge del amable desacuerdo entre las ideas que la persiguen con honestidad" Soy guatemalteca y como a ustedes me preocupa el estado de la Historia actual en mi país. Soy profesora de enseñanza media y este año concluyo mi licenciatura. Ahora mismo emprendo una investigación en cuatro de las principales Universidades para determinar la importancia que se le da al curso de Historia de Guatemala en la formación de los profesionales y examinar enfoques y metodología. He observado a través de los debates, que el poco interés por la Historia es una plaga que nos está invadiendo a muchos, si no es que a todos los países latinoamericanos. Creo que esto es realmente grave y coincido con varios de ustedes cuando afirman que buena parte de la responsabilidad de esta situación debe ser atribuida a los mismos historiadores. Lógicamente hay muchos otros factores que deben ser tomados en cuenta, pero quisiera compartir con ustedes algunas ideas que nos conciernen. Es obvio que en países subdesarrollados el acceso a la educación representa un problema mayúsculo y que en este esquema surge la prioridad de estudiar carreras que alivien las necesidades básicas. No podemos culpar a la gente por esto. Ahora bien, Instituciones como Universidades y Centros educativos en todos los niveles, sí tienen la responsabilidad de mostrar a los individuos una verdad inobjetable Si se marcha solamente en ésta dirección el hombre pierde la conciencia de las dimensiones de su espíritu y de su capacidad de desarrollo interior. Realmente se pierde a sí mismo. El efecto en la sociedad se traduce a la presencia de profesionales con una estrecha visión de la realidad, manejando el mundo basados en premisas falsas y haciendo que otros paguen la consecuencia de esas decisiones. La Historia como la Sociología y la Filosofía son disciplinas que ponen al hombre en contacto con su propia naturaleza y con la realidad, le muestran lo que es capaz de ser y de hacer, lo comparan, lo cuestionan, lo integran. Todos sabemos que sólo en el conocimiento podemos discernir la diferencia entre el bien y el mal y ahorrar a nuestro tiempo tanto error cometido en el pasado. Qué sucede en sociedades en donde cada vez más, este tipo de persona es mas escaso? ( Persona Ser autoconsciente y portador de valores superiores) Cómo podemos esperar conseguir el progreso en las espaldas de hombres desconectados de estas verdades e inmersos en necesidades , a veces legítimas y a veces inventadas , canalizadas principalmente en términos económicos? Y muchos intelectuales callan, y las Universidades insisten en llenar sus programas con carreras "rentables" Pues bien, mi propuesta es Subamos a este tren. Comercialicemos la Historia, salgamos de la comodidad aletargante de nuestros estudios y emprendamos una campaña atractiva y agresiva, para niños, para jóvenes y para adultos. Hagamos una historia dinámica, mostremos el beneficio de su conocimiento ( sobre todo a los miles de políticos analfabetas que circulan por el planeta) Visitemos la radio, la prensa, para que se incorporen a la idea de divulgar el conocimiento y la investigación de la Historia. Elaboremos videos, visitemos empresas para vender conocimiento histórico. Lleguemos al interior de nuestros países a mostrarle a la gente la necesidad de descubrir sus orígenes. Fundemos asociaciones, enloquezcamos a los Gobiernos con una lluvia de peticiones, busquemos ayuda internacional para financiar proyectos de investigación, fomentemos relaciones y contactos con profesores de todo el mundo. Etc, Etc., Etc. Las personas, los grupos, las naciones no pueden apreciarse a sí mismos ni a su contexto si no lo conocen. En buena parte es en la ausencia de este conocimiento en donde nace el desprecio por lo propio, la corrupción, la retroalimentación de nuestra mala imagen internacional, nuestra indiferencia frente a los conflictos políticos que nos conciernen, en fín, tantos males! Sé que muchos ahora estarán pensando, "ésta señora quiere que nos volvamos mercaderes" Pues en cierta forma sí, no hay nadie que lo haga por nosotros. La memoria de los países latinoamericanos puede volverse muy estrecha, porque los encargados de mostrar el pasado se están extinguiendo. Si las Universidades cierran las carreras de Historia, (como ha sucedido en Guatemala) quienes impartirán los pocos cursos que aún existen en algunos años? La Historia entonces, quizá sea escrita por periodistas, con las graves consecuencias que ello representa. Por otra parte, el mismo deterioro de la disciplina ha provocado la poca curiosidad intelectual de muchos historiadores , y como algunos de ustedes afirmaban, se hace una historia mítica y descriptiva, contribuyendo a que su trabajo no sea valorado. Pero la exigencia a nosotros mismos, y el compromiso que debemos asumir,... es otro tema ! Bueno amigos, después de esta dosis de adrenalina navegando sobre mi "pesioptimismo" me despido, con la cordial amenaza de volver, aún tengo mucho que decir.
