In some writings I observe that it exists interest and it debates on the war in Euzkadi, and in one of them I observe that the paper of the nonnationalistic Military services of Euzkadi is questioned. In this respect it would wish to emphasize that these did something more than to remain in Bilbao, and that like gudaris nationalistic defended the positions firmly in that it was called on to them to fight. I believe that some testimonies have contributed to create a negative image of the same ones, as the famous book of George L. Steer on the civil war in Euzkadi, that honors to the nationalistic units in damage of Asturian the local or expeditionary leftists and santanderinas, line followed by other authors. The investigations in course present/display a very different panorama to us. In fact, two thirds of the battle casualties suffered by the units formed in the loyal Basque zone to the Republic, occurred in the frentepopulistas units and anarchists, with which dificilmente inaction in the fight can be attributed to them. Estimados amigos/as de la Historia.

Me congratulo por el interes general de este foro de debate, creo que es lo que se necesita para avanzar en la investigación de temas como el de la guerra civil.

Pertenezco a un equipo de trabajo que, en la actualidad, tanto individual como colectivamente está estudiando la guerra civil en Euskadi (Euzkadi como se decía en el 36). Mis investigaciones se refieren fundamentalmente al área militar del conflicto, (Milicias, Batallones, Armamento, etc)y a las diferentes fuerzas político-sindicales presentes en la Euzkadi autónoma de 1936-1937.

En algunos escritos observo que existe interés y debate sobre la guerra en Euzkadi, y en uno de ellos observo que se cuestiona el papel de las Milicias no nacionalistas de Euzkadi. A este respecto desearía puntualizar que estas hicieron algo más que quedarse en Bilbao, y que al igual que los gudaris nacionalistas defendieron con tesón las posiciones en que les tocó luchar. Creo que algunos testimonios han contribuido a crear una imagen negativa de las mismas, como el famoso libro de George L. Steer sobre la guerra civil en Euzkadi, que destaca a las unidades nacionalistas en detrimento de las izquierdistas locales o expedicionarias asturianas y santanderinas, línea seguida por otros autores. Las investigaciones en curso nos presentan un panorama muy diferente. De hecho, dos tercios de las bajas en combate sufridas por las unidades formadas en la zona vasca leal a la República, se dieron en las unidades frentepopulistas y anarquistas, con lo que dificilmente puede atribuírse les inacción en la lucha.
